2022 is well, halfway complete, and its brought with it tons of new horror movies to get our hearts pumping. Despite closed movie theaters and delayed film schedules, the horror movies of 2021 — such as the slasher Candyman, the psychological horror Last Night in Soho, and the folk film Lamb — delivered scenes that made our blood run cold. And so far this year, the fright factor has not disappointed. Fresh, out now, has fueled fears of modern dating, while Scream reintroduced one of the most infamous characters in horror movie history. Suffice to say, scary movie fans everywhere maintain high expectations for the remainder of 2022.

Luckily, screams are still plenty in store as more films arrive in theaters and on streaming services such as NetflixHuluDisney+, and more throughout the remainder of 2022. From Jordan Peele’s new thriller to the final chapter of the Halloween reboot trilogy, this year’s frightful films are nearly guaranteed to make every hair stand on end. Don't believe us? Scream

One of the first horror films to be released in 2022 is ScreamThe fifth installment of the horror franchise takes place twenty-five years after the original, and finds a new Ghostface killer hunting down victims with ties to the OG.

A handful of members from the original cast are returning, such as Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. But we’ll also meet several new Woodsboro residents, portrayed by Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Dylan Minette, Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, and more.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The classic slasher series is back. But this time, it will stream exclusively on Netflix. As a direct sequel to the original 1974 movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacrethis story revolves around Leatherface and a new lot of victims who unknowingly disrupt his home. Cast members include Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, and Nell Hudson.

Fed up with the state of dating apps, Noa (played by Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones) finally has her meet-cute moment when charming Steve (played by Gossip Girl's Sebastian Stan) strikes up a conversation with her in the grocery store. Noa gives Steve her number, goes on a date with him, and swiftly falls head over heels.

The two then set off on a romantic weekend gateway — but the rosy picture soon fades away when Noa discovers Steve's warped appetite. "It's about giving, giving yourself over to somebody, becoming one forever. That's love," Steve chillingly narrates over the trailer.

Umma

This supernatural thriller from director Iris Shim stars Killing Eve's Sandra Oh and Atypical's Fivel Stewart. The two actresses play mother and daughter, who lead a quiet life as beekeepers on a farm. But then Oh's character, Amanda, receives her mother's remains from South Korea and is told that "her anger will grow as long as she remains in the box."

Amanda's life is soon tormented by the spirit of her mother, as her daughter questions what other lies and secrets she's withheld. "Don't become your mother," the trailer warns.

Umma is produced by Sam Raimi, the director of the first Spider-Man trilogy.

Morbius

Starring House of Gucci’s Jared Leto, this spine-chilling story from 

Marvel centers around biochemist Michael Morbius. Things go horribly

 wrong when he tries to cure himself of a rare blood disorder, 

but instead, accidentally turns himself into a living vampire. 

The official trailer description reads

"The line between hero and villain will be broken."

Morbius was originally slated for a January 28 release,

 but Sony announced that it'd be pushed by three months, to April 1. 

No official reason was given, but it's suspected that the delay is due to the 

latest COVID-19 surge.

You Won't Be Alone

You Won't Be Alone takes place in the 1800s in a rural village in Macedonia, a small country situated in the Balkan Peninsula of southeastern Europe. The film chronicles the unsettling series of events that take place after a young girl, Nevena, is kidnapped by a mythical, bloodthirsty figure named Old Maid Maria, also known as the Wolf-Eateress.

When Nevena is transformed into a shape-shifting witch by Old Maid Maria, she begins killing villagers and quickly learns that she has the power to take on the identity of her victims once they succumb to her horrific abilities.

Choose or Die

Can video games kill? Choose or Die, a horror film that's set to stream exclusively on Netflix, tells the tale of Kayla, a young student who's recently been fired and stumbles across an old video game from the 1980s — a seemingly nondescript finding, until she realizes that it comes with a $125,000 cash prize promised to the winner.

With the help of her friend Isaac, Kayla starts playing the "Choose Your Own Adventure"-esque game. But after a series of horrifying moments arise and reality starts to split apart, Kayla and Isaac discover that what they're playing is no game at all.

Based on a 1980 Stephen King novel of the same name, Firestarter chronicles the story of 11-year-old Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), who possesses the power to start fires with her mind.
